Alekos Fassianos

Alekos Fassianos (1935–2022) was one of the most prominent Greek painters of the 20th century. Born in Athens, he studied violin at the Athens Conservatory and painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Yannis Moralis. He furthered his studies in lithography at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris on a French government scholarship. His work is characterized by influences from ancient Greek vase painting and Byzantine iconography, featuring vivid colors and figurative forms. He exhibited internationally, including at the Venice and São Paulo Biennales, and was awarded the Legion of Honour by France.
